The Innovation and Change in Management

Organizational change can be linked to the company’s adoption of a new idea or behavior. This may include the development of improved technology, the creation of a new product, the improvement of organizational structure, advanced training, or the formation of an appropriate corporate culture (Williams, 2017). The purpose of organizational changes is to transfer the company to a new state, more consistent with its mission, and increase the efficiency of its functioning.

In the article “Innovation and Change Management: The People Side of Implementing a Great Strategy,” Paula Alsher notes that the planned and consistent change model contains seven successive elements. They include the identification of change, the capacity building for change agents, the assessment of compliance with environmental trends, and the creation of project sponsorship (Alsher, 2017). It also includes the analysis of readiness for innovation, the development of a communication plan, and the reinforcement of changes. In general, all possible innovations in the organization can be reduced to the main types. These are the changes in purpose, strategy, technology, structure, product, people, and culture.

In the article “Innovation and Change in Business,” Chris MacKechnie also points the important elements for a successful implementation of these changes. First, the organization should create a culture conducive to innovation. Finding a suitable strategy, development concept and goal is important for long-term success, but these elements also have significant motivational properties (MacKechnie, 2010). Second, companies seeking to take a leading position in the market need to build a system of remuneration for the innovative activities. It is also important to reward employees even for failures since they did their best to generate an idea. Third, the organization needs to support the idea with resources, budget, and attention. Finally, it is necessary to develop standards and guidelines for best practice in the innovations done.

Modern organizations operating in a complex dynamic environment with high levels of uncertainty must constantly change. They must make proactive and effective decisions that will lead them to the future success. The ability to make innovations, adapt to an ever-changing environment, or change the environment itself are the important features of today’s companies. The characteristics, described in the analyzed articles, ensure the competitiveness and survival of organizations in the long term.
