The Role of Health Care Systems in the United States

Summary

Issues pertaining to health are crucial in any society. One of the goals of this research paper is to evaluate the role of health care systems in the United States. The United States healthcare industry has consistently recorded minimal performance in terms of cost and quality in the past few years. This study underscores the rising costs of health care products and facilities in the US. These aspects make healthcare services unaffordable to low-income earners. The US health care environment has been a competitive one due to the existence of many private health care providers. Why does a competitive health care environment like that of the US perform poorly in its ratings against those of other countries? Worse still, the services the medical practitioners offer their clients do not measure up to globally accepted standards. Preventable medical errors continue to increase in the US. They lead to the deaths of many patients (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2012). Unprofessional practices in the health care sector in the US lead to high infant mortality rates.

This study addresses various factors that affect the healthcare system in the United States. It also examines ways of improving the healthcare structures. The study draws lessons from a case study of efficiently managed organizations. It highlights the merits and demerits of the organizational framework in regard to management and growth strategies, mode of operations, procedures for maintaining international standards and customer relations policies. The paper also reviews the medical care provider’s human resource and recruitment policies. Banner Health needs to have a youthful workforce in its database. The organization also ought to engage a number of experienced workers in order to develop and train recruits or existing staff of lower cadres. This essay identifies techniques or business models employed by blue-chip companies. Banner Health needs to provide quality services in order to be relevant in the next decade.

Banner Health’s readiness to tackle the healthcare challenges of clients in the future

Banner Health’s medical care systems constitute different programs to cater to the requirements of the next generation. The group incorporates innovation in the healthcare system through the acquisition of modern medical equipment to deal with major health issues.

It offers medical services in several provinces, in the city of Arizona. It employs a huge workforce making it a “top employer” in the US. The group’s recruitment method reflects the health challenges of its clients in the next decade. It upholds employment requirements that favor qualified and experienced candidates for positions that allow the health organization to serve a heterogeneous clientele. The medical care provider’s management policy does not accord more preference to youthfulness than experience. This aspect makes the company achieve its corporate objectives.

Issues pertaining to network growth

Banner Health needs to adopt an attractive motto to inspire its clients and workers. The group should demonstrate competitiveness as a corporate body (Hartley, 2008). The company strives to upgrade its infrastructure through an initiative that focuses on excellence and quality service. The organization engages in a discrete recruiting exercise in which it seeks to strengthen its workforce. The group utilizes the services of the youth who form the largest number of its human resources. It believes that youthful workers are enthusiastic and hence able to produce efficient services. Banner Health began its work in 1999. The group resulted from the amalgamation of Lutheran and Samaritan health systems. Banner Health also runs a medical insurance program referred to as Medisun. Human resource analysts consider Banner Health to be the second-largest employer in Arizona, after Walmart, with over 36,000 employees. Banner Health contains a comprehensive network expansion strategy.

It runs about 23 hospitals which feature in Phoenix, Arizona. The group upholds a philosophy that encourages “people to wait for specialists to come to their homes and attend to them”. Banner Health utilizes a patient support system whereby its physicians are readily available to offer their services to patients. The healthcare provider introduced Banner Home Care to cater mainly for its outpatient service, facilitate medical assessment, supervise and treat its patients even after they had left the hospital facility. The residential care of Banner Health offers a special homecare service called clinical infusion therapy. Infusion therapy is a form of medication administered using a needle or syringe, and this includes medication given intravenously (IY), intramuscularly (IM), or subcutaneously. This paper observes that Banner Health’s workers similar to those of effectively managed organizations are adequately trained to meet the objectives of their organizations.

Nurse staffing

This paper notes that Banner Health provides modern medical equipment and the enabling environment for its nurses, to enable them to deliver quality healthcare services to patients. The group offers competitive rates to its customers. The nursing fraternity of Banner Health provides hospitable services and humane care to its clients. Banner Health operates a continuous program for training and on-the-job development to its workers to improve the quality of services it delivers.

This paper notes, however, that Banner Health does not disclose the age bracket of its nursing staff. One patient who had received medical attention from Banner Health commented on indeed.com that its nurses and nursing assistants were adequately certified and trained based on their performance.

Resource management

Healthcare analysts recognize Banner Health as an established medical care organization in the industry. This paper observes that Banner Health runs an appropriate marketing services portfolio that can help it gain a competitive edge over its rivals in the healthcare industry, in the United States. The group operates a social responsibility initiative to improve its rating in the market.

The company upholds the adoption of new technological ventures. The organization integrates modalities of development of new programs into its structures to meet the needs of new generations. Health care consultants note that Banner Health’s systems create skills that improve the adaptability of its professionals to different environments. The facility reinforces the capacities of its human resources through clinical research and program evaluation in the areas of medical trials.

Patients’ satisfaction

Banner Health ensures the satisfaction of its patients by the provision of competitive services at affordable rates. Its medical rates to clients accommodate both middle-class and low-income earners. Patients can easily access relevant information about the facility’s services and their medical records in the healthcare provider. The adoption of modern equipment assures Banner Health’s clients of timely diagnoses of diseases and consequent treatment. The organization ensures the availability of adequate staff to serve its clients. This aspect reduces the waiting time of patients and hence builds their confidence in the organization. The group runs an efficient monitoring and evaluation system to monitor its competitiveness in the provision of healthcare services.
